At the 2016 Henry Hope Reed Awards, Eusebio Leal Spengler director of Havana’s Heritage Office, received a deserved recognition by Notre Dame University in Chicago for his life-time commitment with Old Havana’s restoration. Hosted by Sr. Richard Driehaus – philanthropist and vintage car collector – the celebration included a picturesque car ride for the participants to arrive in style. During his speech, Sr. Driehaus generously gifted a 1949 Chrysler’s DeSoto to the city of Havana and its people.

Named after Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto, the car made its way to Havana’s Automobile Museum and our studio was commissioned to design the museography for the piece. A contemporary industrial lot adjacent to the museum, branded as El Garaje by Pepe Menéndez was designated as its final destination. Art Director Laura Llópiz was in charge of the environmental graphics, project management, and overall supervision.

In the words of Mr. Steven Murphy – Sr. Driehaus representative: “When the doors opened we saw a blue capsule transporting us to a different time and place. The mood and graphics were impressive and the blue complementing the car’s upholstery is unbelievable.
Superb attention to detail!”
