The Delmar Makers District is a vibrant, emerging city sandbox where makers, artists, and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds converge to create, collaborate, and inspire. Rooted in the ethos of "thinking with your hands," the district fosters a spirit of innovation, bridging cultural and social divides while shaping the next generation of creators. When tasked with reimagining the district's visual identity, our mission was clear: design a cohesive visual identity that celebrates this community's energy, creativity, and inclusivity while providing a flexible framework for current and future stakeholders.
The central logo combines geometric shapes in a way that evokes a feeling of assembly and possibility. These shapes were more than aesthetic choices; they were symbolic—representing the tools and techniques of makers while echoing the district’s commitment to bridging divides. Overlapping forms mirrored the collaboration that defines the community, while a bold and energetic color palette reflected the spirit of diversity, creativity, and growth radiating from the district.
One of the most exciting aspects of this rebrand was the large-scale collaboration with the district’s current businesses. Workshops and brainstorming sessions with the district’s current businesses informed every step of the design process. These collective insights became the foundation of the visual identity, ensuring that the final design didn’t just represent the district but belonged to it.
The rebrand of the Delmar Makers District has unified the community under a shared visual and cultural identity. It has amplified the district’s role as a hub of creativity, innovation, and inclusivity, attracting new makers and entrepreneurs while celebrating those who have already made the area their home.
